Easter

Easter is a weird holiday for me.

As a kid, it was all about bunnies and eggs, and baskets and candy.  My mom used to dress us up and sometimes we would even go to church.  Another great thing about the holiday is that is usually meant time off from school.

As an adult, Easter is not the same.  I do not get dressed up, I never go to church, and I have not dyed an egg in years.  Plus, there is no time off from work.  It just feels like another Sunday.  The only correlation between my kid-Easters and my adult-Easters is the candy!  Oh how I love Cadbury Mini Eggs!

As a mom, I am not sure what to do about Easter.  We are not very religious, so do I explain to Anna the story behind Easter or do I just stick with bunnies and baskets?  (I have no plans to visit the Easter Bunny at the mall.  One visit to see Santa is enough.)  I do not have anything to worry about this year, but soon Anna will be old enough and I guess the days of making baskets and hunting for eggs will be back on.  And, if my mom has anything to do with it, I am sure Anna will be dressed in something fancy sometime soon.

  1. Not sure if Kyle told you or not, but we also did not go to church for Easter when he and Matt were little. We DID, however, color eggs and make them an Easter basket. We would take the eggs out to a park and hide them (in case they weren't all found, they wouldn't smell later). When we colored the eggs, we would vote on a "prize" egg and whoever found that egg during the hunt would get a prize...usually a big chocolate bunny or a toy. I think they enjoyed it all...I know we had fun watching them. How you and Kyle handle the whole Easter and/or Christmas thing will come to you in time. For now, it's Easter baskets, bunnies, candies and decorated eggs!

  3. Yes, if I have anything to do with it, Anna will be dressed up for Easter and Christmas. It doesn't hurt and I love seeing her dressed in frilly, fun things (like her first birthday outfit). I would answer her questions as they come and do what she is able to participate in. You girls always enjoyed the Egg hunt and coloring the eggs your Dad enjoyed eating. I like the big family Easter dinner (and peeps!). Visiting the Easter bunny wasn't big on our list either and I believe we went to church most Easters until we moved to Houston. I would just enjoy the holiday and spring celebrations.

  4. I should add--hated that dress I have on. And, bows in Anna's hair for Easter.

  5. I need to add your feeling might come from Easter of 1983. While at Easter Vigil mass, you set your bangs on fire while holding the candle. Such a solemn mass and people around us were stifling their giggles.
