Great Weekend

I had a great weekend and here is why:
Hot Hot Hot:  It was finally a warm, summery weekend.  The temperatures were in the 80s and it was fabulous.  Summer is my favorite.
Frappuccinos:  Kyle discovered he could have this tasty treat if he asks for the soy version.  So, we enjoyed strawberries and creme, soy fraps this weekend, without whip cream of course (some day, Kyle, some day).
Lost:  We had a few friends over Sunday night to watch the series finale of Lost.  It was a great episode, but I’m still not sure how I feel about the ending.  In any case, we had great food including Dharma cupcakes!
Pedicure:  I had my first pedicure since last August!!  It was very, very nice.  Now I just hope that sand volleyball Tuesday doesn’t totally ruin it.
Celebrity Sighting (sort of):  While eating at Blanc Friday night, we saw the mayor of Kansas City.

The only bad thing about the weekend (besides it having to come to an end), was that Kyle and I practiced for the 5K run we have coming up and failed, miserably.  Twice I tried to run the course and barely made it half way each time.  The heat, humidity, and the HILLS were just too much.  I’m hoping for a miracle June 5.

Kyle's Big Birthday Weekend

Kyle and I celebrated his 30th birthday in St. Louis.  He has always wanted to take the train somewhere, so we took it from Kansas City to St. Louis.  It was super fun.  I recommend taking the train to anyone who has some extra time to get where they want to go.  It was not the fastest route, but it was the most relaxing.  It doesn’t have the hassle (and near panic attacks) of flying, and it is not as boring as driving with one of us having to concentrate on the road. The trip was about five hours, but we had plenty of movies to watch and snacks to eat.  We sat in business class, which means more room, our own electric plug, tray tables, and seats that recline really far.  The train was not as fancy, or shiny and new, as I was somehow expecting, and the food on the train was awful.  So, bring your own food and have an open mind, and it can be really fun.  In St. Louis we shopped (H&M!), relaxed, ate, and visited this crazy museum.

Thoughts on St. Louis:
- They have great public transportation
- They have really cute, old neighborhoods
- The downtown pretty much shuts down over the weekend, but it makes it really easy to get a reservation at a nice restaurant.
- I ate raw salmon for the first (and last) time, on accident.  Yuck!

It was a great, big birthday weekend.

Hiking in Weston, Missouri

Kyle and I ventured out to Weston, MO, which is about 40 miles north of Kansas City.  We had a really fun day!  We hiked through the state park, sampled and bought vodka from a local distillery, and ate lunch at the local brewery.  It actually felt like we were on vacation, for a few hours anyway, which always puts both of us in a good mood.  Add in a really cute downtown and we are in heaven.

Side note: While hiking we ran into our neighbors!  It was kind of crazy, but we finally introduced ourselves and our dogs.  So now, when we run into each other while out walking the dogs, we can say hello by name.  Well, Riley won’t.  She’ll continue to bark and growl at their dogs as usual.
