Wow, it has been ten years since I graduated from Klein High School in Spring, TX (near Houston). On one hand, it feels like high school was centuries ago, but I also don’t feel old enough to be going to a 10-year reunion. It was tough to decide whether or not to even go for several reasons. First, I went to two high schools and was invited to both reunions, but knew I couldn’t afford to go to both. Second, when I graduated from Klein there were 800 other students in my class and I knew about 4 of them. But, the ticket was cheap and the timing was right, so Kyle and I decided to head to Houston for my reunion.
Good news first: It was so great seeing my girls (pictured above)!!! I think we’ve done a good job of keeping in touch over the years and it was fabulous catching up with them again. From left to right, Leslie is now teaching, Jessica has a beautiful baby Jenna, Sally is pregnant with baby #2 (and is going to the Emmys!!), me, and Whitney is loving life, especially with her Dr. boyfriend. So, everyone seems to be doing well and I loved hanging out with them again.
Now for the rest: Wow, 10 years later and Klein High School is just as snobby and clique-y as ever! You think some people would change (i.e. grow up) in ten years, but this didn’t appear to be the case for some people. So, I spent the evening hanging out people I knew and avoiding the stares from the rest that clearly said, “who the heck is that?”. On top of everything, my high school bully was there as well. You know the guy that happens to be in all of your classes and just constantly reminds you that you don’t belong? That was him, and sadly, all the feelings came back.
I’m glad that I went and saw my girls (and their husbands of course) but it reminded me that leaving Houston was a good decision!!
